Ghibli: "It is an insult to life", why did the founder of Studio Ghibli raise questions on AI generated pictures?

Studio Ghibli: After the Ghibli pictures went viral in recent days, discussion also started on the reaction of animator Miyazaki Hayao on AI. One of his statements is becoming very viral on the internet in which he criticized AI generated animation.

Studio Ghibli Founder:

Today every internet user is competing to create images in Ghibli style. People are creating their Ghibli images and sharing them on social media. Today AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Meta AI play an important role in making this art popular on the internet. But let us tell you that the founder of Ghibli Art once strongly criticized AI generated pictures and called it an insult to life. Let us know why the founder of Studio Ghibli said so.

Who is 'Miyazaki Hayao', the founder of Ghibli Art?

Actually, the credit for the reason for which Ghibli art is known today goes to Studio Ghibli. It was Studio Ghibli who brought this art into the real world by putting it into pictures. This studio was started in Japan in 1985 by Miyazaki Hayao, Isao Takahata, Toshio Suzuki, Yasuyoshi Tokuma. You must have heard the name of Japanese 'anime' and must have seen it in many cartoons? Ghibli is a kind of Japanese art in which anime characters are put into pictures. The most different thing about Studio Ghibli was that the animators here used to make these pictures by hand, not by computer. After which the animation was prepared by placing these pictures in order. Even today, after almost 40 years, Ghibli animation is being prepared in this studio from pictures made by hand.

In today's modern era, where animations are now being made by computers, its co-founder Miyazaki Hayao has contributed to keeping this handmade art alive even today. Apart from his animated films, he is also a Manga artist, especially known for the manga series 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind', on which he worked from 1982 to 1984, as well as other animated films such as 'Hikōtei Jidai' and 'Porco Rossoper'.

Animator and filmmaker Miyazaki Hayao has given classic films like 'Spirited Away', 'My Neighbor Totoro', 'Princess Mononoke', which connect the audience emotionally. But he is angry about the increasing influence of AI.

Miyazaki's tough stand on AI

After the Ghibli pictures went viral in recent days, animator Miyazaki Hayao's reaction on AI also started going viral. A video of him is being widely shared on the Internet in which he is seen very angry towards AI-generated animation. According to reports, this video is from 2016 in which he is criticizing AI and saying that it is an 'insult to life' and he is not interested in watching such content.

Miyazaki says, "I cannot be thrilled by seeing such things. The people who make it do not understand the feeling of pain. I am very disappointed about this and would never want to adopt this technique in my art. According to me, this is an insult to life."

He believes that the true essence of art is reflected only when a person puts his experiences, pain, happiness and emotions into pictures and stories. But AI-based animation is far from this depth.

Artists like Miyazaki believe that AI can never understand human emotions and hence it will lag behind real art.
